All schools in the Austintown school district are public schools. Open enrollment is also available. For the 2015/16 school year, the district is only accepting new students in grades K-9. The Austintown school district also offers another program called, H.O.P.E. ("Helping Others Pursue Excellence") Academy is a program designed to address the needs of middle and high school students that have not been met in school. The students referred to H.O.P.E. Academy are typically at risk of educational failure (as indicated by poor grades, truancy, disruptive behavior, credit deficiency, or similar factors associated with temporary or permanent withdrawal from school). Students must be referred by a school administrative personnel in order to participate in this program. A school caseworker will work with all students and families referred and serve as a family liaison; additionally, a dean of students is employed to monitor behavior and establish a rapport to work with students having any behavior issues. The curriculum is aligned with the Ohio Academic Content Standards and Common Core. All core classes, English, Science, Social Studies, and Mathematics are covered. Additionally, there are a variety of electives available. Students in the program also take credit recovery courses as needed to gain credit for courses they may have failed in the past.

Board of Education meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The location is determined monthly. However, the meetings are normally held in the Cafeteria at Austintown Middle School.

Disability Services
Leonard Kirtz School is a chartered, public school that provides comprehensive programs and education to students between the ages of 6 and 22, who have developmental disabilities. The content of the program is designed to provide social, academic, and vocational programs geared towards the individual functioning level of each student. All students are from the Mahoning County and are placed at Leonard Kirtz School through their school district of residence.

Adult Education
- MCCTC offers free ABLE (Adult Basic and Literacy Education) classes to individuals who want extra help in reading, math, or language skills before taking their GED
- MCCTC also serves as a Pearson Vue test site for the computerized GED test. Tests are given once per month. In order to register for the GED test, just follow these 3 simple steps

- The career center offers career exploration open houses throughout the year. They offer the opportunity to learn more about career certification programs, meet instructors, and tour the facility.

Health Services
The school nurses within the Austintown school district are responsible for the assessment of and planning safe and effective management of students with acute and chronic health conditions, such as diabetes, asthma, seizures, Crohns disease, allergies, etc. The nurse will develop individualized health care plans for these students, in order to manage these conditions and prevent complications while they are at school. The nurse shares and discusses the health care plans with the educational staff in a confidential manner. The nurse will also ensure that the students within the school district are compliant with their immunizations against infectious diseases.

Each school also has a medical assistant to provide basic first aid needs and medication administration as needed. They are trained by Valley Care Health Systems to carry out these tasks, and are overseen by the Valley Care clinical coordinator, who is a registered nurse. Since the 2012-13 school year the district has a partner ship with Valley care. They are responsible for hiring, training, and supervising the medical assistants who staff the school clinics.
Valley care also provides a nurse practitioner who sees the students in the Falcon Mobile van from 7a.m to 9a.m daily. There is a fee for this service.
Her office is in the Fitch clinic where she conducts physicals, and can also assess, diagnose, and treat students and staff.

Sex Education
The Austintown School District offers a sex education program called STARS. The high school students are educated about sexual activity, and how to protect themselves against sexually transmitted diseases.

The Austintown Local School District has been designated as a three star Ohio Green Fleet by Clean Fuels Ohio’s statewide program. The Ohio Green Fleets program recognizes fleets for improvements in environmental performance and efficiency. Through an Ohio EPA grant, the district has acquired 14 new buses fueled by propane. Representatives from Clean Fuels Ohio, Cardinal Bus/Roush Engines, and Youngstown Propane will be on hand. Most recently, the District has received additional Ohio EPA grant funding to replace 14 diesel-powered buses, with cleaner, more cost effective propane autogas powered units. By implementing these strategies, Austintown Local Schools are making tremendous strides to improve their economic and environmental performance.

Strengths:

Weakness:
Overall, the test scores are not necessarily bad, however there is plenty of room for improvement.
Students within the school district recieve a limited amount of sex education.Teen pregnancy is a big concern, not only in Austintown, but in other school districts as well, and improvements should be made in this area.
